The New 79 Series Toyota Landcruiser is Here

Toyota Australia has recently announced the release of its upgraded LandCruiser 70 Series range. The LandCruiser 79 series arrives Australian showrooms in November, starting from $76,800 plus on-road costs for the 79 Series WorkMate (single cab-chassis). The new range features a series of enhancements to its exterior. Including: styling, comfort, convenience features, and safety technology. This makes it more appealing to customers looking for a rugged 4×4 designed for both work and leisure.

UpDates:

One of the major updates is the introduction of a six-speed automatic transmission for the first time. Paired with the upgraded 1GD four-cylinder 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine. This is designed to meet the demands of the 79 Series. This new engine option will make the 79 Series range more accessible to a broader range of customers. Being due to the overwhelming demand for this fan-favourite commercial vehicle range. The upgraded 79 Series range also comes with a number of mechanical upgrades for the 2.8-litre turbo-diesel powertrain to improve cooling and reliability, especially in heavy-usage scenarios. These upgrades include an increased diameter of the cooling fan, an isolation crank pulley, a newly designed oil pan, strainer, and oil level sensor, and an adjusted orientation of the oil filter.

Upgrades:

To reduce noise, vibration, and harshness levels, a balance shaft has been introduced. Additionally, the six-speed automatic transmission has been upgraded with a deeper oil pan. Thus optimising oil strainer intake position, and a newly added oil catch tank. The transmission also features a power/haul mode to maximise the 70 Series’ full 3,500kg braked towing capacity, and a second start switch to assist in difficult situations.

The new LandCruiser 70 Series is easily identifiable by its redesigned front end, which includes new circular LED headlamps with Automatic High Beam, a new black mesh grille, and dark grey alloy wheels. The interior of the 70 Series range has also been redesigned, featuring a larger 6.7-inch touchscreen multimedia system with voice recognition. Also has wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster display, and a new-look speedometer and tachometer.

Safety Suite:

We see the suite of Toyota Safety Sense active safety features has been expanded to include. Downhill Assist Control, Road Sign Assist, and Lane Departure Alert, along with the existing Pre-Collision System. The new 1GD four-cylinder powertrain is offered on all LandCruiser 70 Series grades. This produces 150kW and 500 Nm of torque. The 1VD 4.5-litre turbo diesel V8 engine will also continue to be available. It also produces 151kW and 430 Nm of torque.
