Empowering youth and building futures: Boilermaker apprenticeships in manufacturing
At Norweld, we don’t just love manufacturing heavy-duty ute trays and canopies; we’re deeply committed to empowering the next generation and being an integral part of our community.
Our work experience program out of our Cairns Head Office, offers students immersive opportunities to learn and grow in a real-world manufacturing environment. Whether attending 4 days a week over a block or once a week for between 20 to 30 days, students gain invaluable insights and skills.
While boilermaker apprenticeships forms the core of our work experience, we’re open to accommodating students in other departments too, ensuring exposure to a wide range of skills and opportunities, from Welders and Entry-level Trade Assistants to CNC Machine Operators.
Our commitment to fostering talent extends beyond our own workshop; we actively engage with schools through workshop tours arranged by the Business Liaison Association (BLA) and the iENGAGE Student Industry Engagement Program. These tours generate significant interest in our work experience program, allowing us to reach students from schools across Far North Queensland.
Additionally, our collaboration with Sandra Scarcella from the Cairns Manufacturing Hub further enhances our outreach efforts. Through school expo deliveries and discussions on employment opportunities, we ensure students are well-informed and inspired to explore career paths in manufacturing.
At Norweld, we believe in the power of mentorship and the importance of recognising potential. That’s why we keep records of our work experience students’ performance, considering them for potential apprenticeships upon school completion. Our apprenticeship intakes (promoted annually around October) offer students a pathway to further develop their skills and pursue rewarding careers in the industry.
Our dream is to be able to offer opportunities like this across Australia. We invite other business and government bodies to join us, as we continue to make a difference in the lives of young Australians, supporting Australian Made and Owned businesses and nurturing the next generation of skilled professionals. Together, we’re building futures and shaping the workforce of tomorrow.
