The Titans of Coal swapped their steel-caps for footy boots for the Battle of the Mines 2025 in Clermont, Queensland, and Norweld was proud to stand behind them.

The annual event which brings together mining communities for a weekend of footy, fun and fundraising, with this year’s competition carrying an extra layer of meaning after the Titans of Coal lost one of their own to suicide.

A team of mateship

Casey Williams, Titan IND’s Executive Support Officer, shared what the day meant for the players:

“Sometimes a team just works. Officials and players who started as strangers that morning, finished as best mates and family. We might not have taken home the trophy, but what we gained in connection, memories and laughter is what really matters. These moments are why we do this.”

The Titans fought hard all day, making it through their pool games and into the Grand Final against the Moranbah Typhoons. Despite the Typhoons proving too strong, the Titans showed grit, determination and true sportsmanship right up to the last siren.

Supporting mental health and community

The day wasn’t just about the footy, the Titans of Coal also raised money for The Shelter Collective and Reboot Mindset Academy, charities working hard to improve mental health and wellbeing.

These causes also resonate with Norweld. In 2024, we took part in Movember to help raise awareness on mental health challenges, encouraging conversations and supporting each other in and out of the workplace. Standing alongside the Titans of Coal is another way we’re proud to join in that ongoing conversation.

“A massive thank you to Norweld for making this possible and for their ongoing support to make this journey achievable. We cannot wait for the stories to continue.”

Thanks Casey, we’re grateful to have been a part of this year’s Battle of the Mines and look forward to seeing the Titans of Coal back on the field next year.
