Norweld Champions Local Innovation: Sponsoring ‘Hephaestus Robotics’ Team to national stage at VEX Robotics Competition.
Norweld, a leader in advanced manufacturing of world-class ute trays and canopies, is proud to announce its sponsorship of the Hephaestus Robotics Team, an independent team of grade 7 students from Cairns State High School who have achieved remarkable success in the VEX Robotics Competition.
The Hephaestus team recently triumphed at the Regional VEX Robotics Competition, securing three awards and qualifying for the National Robotics Competition, to be held in Sydney from 4th to 6th December, 2024. This achievement is a testament to their ingenuity, teamwork and perseverance, overcoming challenges as an independent team and making a mark on the national stage.
Norweld is committed to fostering innovation and supporting the next generation of technology leaders. As a company that integrates cutting-edge technology and robotics into its own operation – including the use of laser cutters, robotic systems and advanced scheduling and nesting software—Norweld recognises the importance of equipping young minds with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) skills for Industry 4.0.
“We are incredibly proud to support the Hephaestus Robotics Team,” said Jaime McIntosh, Managing Director of Norweld. “Their determination and success align with our own commitment to innovation and technology. At Norweld, we not only build premium ute trays and canopies but also invest in upskilling our staff and embracing the future of robotics and automation. Supporting young talent like the Hephaestus team is an extension of that mission.”
The Hephaestus team’s journey includes a standout performance at the regional level, where they were recognised for their robot’s design and operational excellence. Last year, the team earned Edge Hill State School its first-ever VEX Robotics award and a World Ranking of 1,250 out of over 7,000 teams. Now, as they prepare for Nationals in Sydney, they continue to inspire with their drive and sportsmanship.
To celebrate their achievements and partnership, Norweld is welcoming the Hephaestus team to its Cairns headquarters on 26th November. The students will meet the Managing Director, tour the facility and learn firsthand how Norweld employs advanced technology to create its renowned products.
Norweld’s support for the Hephaestus Robotics Team highlights the company’s dedication to nurturing the next generation of innovators while showcasing the synergies between youth-driven robotics and industry-leading technology.
