Meet Trip in a Van – The Chevy build edition

Our old friends Justin and Bec Lorrimer, better known as Trip in a Van, have explored some of the toughest tracks and iconic locations in Australia.

Their adventures started out with a couple of trusty swags on their BT-50, before they upgraded to a full-time Norweld Deluxe Canopy setup. From there they stepped up to to a chopped LandCruiser 200 Series GXL, fitted with a Deluxe Canopy and a caravan in tow. You can check out that epic build here.

Today, the family have their next touring build, a mint looking Chevrolet Silverado 2500, complete with a Norweld Elite Tray and Deluxe Canopy – and to say Justin is happy might be an understatement:

“I tell you what, there’s nothing quite like that fresh canopy feeling. The smell, the look, the feel, before it gets dirty and full of gear. It’s like a new car smell, only better… a new canopy smell just hits different.”

About TRIP IN A VAN’S Norweld Elite Build

For Justin and Bec, sticking with the Chevy tub on the back wasn’t really an option for them. They’ve always run a tray and canopy for touring because they absolutely love what they provide. Touring means reliability, storage and comfort, and the Norweld canopy really has become an essential part of how the family travels.

“American utes have huge trays and for us, a full-length enclosed canopy would’ve meant unused space. The 1740 with the extra rear storage suits us perfectly.”

The toolboxes which feature our torque hinges, no chains, wires or straps and the compression locks ensures everything is sealed tight and free of dust and water.

The kitchen space features a Dometic NRX15 fridge freezer, a pull-down pantry and a sliding drawer/table combo that extends for extra cooking and dining space – with our famous Norweld Australia map to finish it off.

Central locking provides the family with added security and convenience while the REDARC Platinum Wiring Package delivers 600Ah of lithium, RedVision controls and a 3000W inverter. Wiring packages like this one, give the family serious off-grid power to run everything from coffee machines and induction cooktops to fridges, lights, drones and computers.

These days, the canopy isn’t just about full-time living on the road. The Lorrimers use it flexibly, loading up swags for fishing trips, carrying extra fridges for off-grid missions with mates or mixing it up when the caravan comes along. It’s a setup that adapts to every style of adventure, giving them the storage, power and comfort they need to keep exploring Australia their way.

*Tray and canopy packages combined with typical 4×4 accessories increase the weight of a vehicle. A GVM upgrade is recommended on most makes and models to ensure trouble-free touring, and for your vehicle to remain legal when loaded.
